Villa Lodi - a stunning period villa with a lakeside position and huge, private botanical gardens.

When you arrive at the wrought iron gates of this impressive villa you know that you are in for an experience of a lifetime. Constructed by a famous architect of the region in the late 1900s Villa Lodi is rare. Its is rare because it is one of the most original and untouched Villas on the lake that is available for rental.

The interiors are all mainly original and full of art that the owner’s family acquired over the years with some very impressive and valuable pieces. Over the next few years the owners intend to preserve and lovingly restore the property. Once complete Villa Lodi will no doubt be one of the most expensive and important let villas on the lake. Stay in it now at a price that will never be repeated. Rest assured during the season there will be no renovations as work will only be carried out during the closed season.

Its stunning lake side position across the water from Bellagio and very close to both Tremezzo and Menaggio will ensure that you have a great base for the most authentic Lake Como experience available today. There is a lakeside swimming pool just a few hundred metres away that can be used by Bella Como guests for a small daily fee.

Through the imposing iron gates and past the gate house along the winding driveway you will arrive at the front of the villa. Outside at the front there is a large elevated terrace with table and chairs, a stone veranda with jaw dropping views and a large bronze statue of a prancing horse. The gardens here are just gorgeous, combining palms and bamboo with stunning borders and shrubs.

Through imposing wooden doors you enter into the large kitchen which was refurbished in the 1970s with custom joinery to a very high standard. You will find an abundance of work space with most amenities including a large American fridge freezer with ice making and cold water. The feature fireplace recalls the past and contrasts with the amazing 1970s style light oak kitchen that looks almost unused. There is also a seating area in the kitchen.

From the kitchen you enter a small hallway and into the most stunning part of the Villa.

The huge living space that confronts you is amazing. You could imagine heads of state seated there contemplating important events. Arranged as three areas it extends from one end of the villa to the other.

A dining area with grand table and chairs, art works and lake facing window with views, lounge area with art works, sofas and chairs plus stunning grand day furniture and a leisure area with a full size billiards/snooker table. All with vast lake front windows letting the sun pour in. The aspect from one end to the other is stunning and gives the impression of a well preserved stately home yet it invites you to use it, enjoy it and relax. It is unique and very appealing.

Into the grand hallway with granite floors and stone and iron staircase you begin to see the scale of the villa. The hallway too houses some stunning furniture. From the hallway there is a WC with wash basin.

Up the stairs you will find six bedrooms . The staircase and landing, like the rest of the house, has a grand scale and is filled with stunning pieces of furniture and artwork. It is a quiet haven and can be used as a dayroom too.

Bedroom one with ensuite is a large twin room with lake facing window and views. There is a frescoed ceiling, oak floor and oak furniture. The ensuite features WC, bidet, basin and bath.

Bedroom two is a large twin room with garden window, vanity sink, stone floors and oak furniture plus an immediately adjacent WC with basin.

Bedroom three is a large twin room with oak furniture, stone floors and garden window.

Bedroom four is a very large master double bedroom with private balcony overlooking the lake and gardens, grand oak furniture, bureaux , seating, oak floors and large lake windows.

Bedroom five is a large twin room with stone floors and garden window, iron beds and oak furniture.

Between bedrooms three and six there is a small lobby that has a doorway into a bathroom with WC, basin and bath with shower attachment.

There is also a family bathroom that has a seperate shower and bath.

From a separate staircase you can access the sixth bedroom - a guest suite at the rear of the house in the staff quarters with double bed and its own bathroom with bath. Ideal for a nanny or somebody who would like privacy from the rest of the party. This room is functional but does not possess the character of the others bedrooms.

There are many other rooms around the villa adding to its interest and architectural appeal, most containing amazing pieces of furniture. Many of the rooms have been closed off as is the taverna in the basement.

Outside you have some 5000 sq meters of private botanical gardens. Along the pathways you will discover amazing views across the lake to Bellagio and lovely places to sit and relax. Lower down there are loungers and table and chairs. The gardens are truly magnificent and are carefully looked after by a local expert in botanical gardens.

Over the next few years the owners intend to preserve and lovingly restore the property. Once complete Villa Lodi will no doubt be one of the most expensive and important let Villas on the lake and as such some aspects of the interior are in need of work or modernisation and this has been reflected in the rental rates for the season. During the rental season there will be no renovations - work will only be carried out during the closed season.

Villa Lodi - sleeping up to ten people. In the grounds there is a small villetta that is used by the owners of Villa Lodi from time to time. The onwers are commited to ensure the guests at Villa Lodi are afforded maximum privacy.

In the nearby village of Cadenabbia, on the lakefront is a private swimming pool and lido with bar that can be used by Bella Como guests for a small daily charge. Under 12 years go free.

Out and about.


Cadenabbia borders Tremezzo on the shores and mountains of the lake. It has to be one of the lakes most upmarket areas with stunning villas and gorgeous gardens in abundance. It sits at the foot of a craggy mountain cliff face so boasts panoramic lake views to the front and dramatic mountain vistas to the rear.

You are in walking distance of the local Alimentari for your groceries and fresh bread. Villa Lodi has a lovely local cafe next door and within a few minutes walk there is a good choice of restaurants, cafes, bars and small shops and boutiques.

Close by and easily walkable is the 5 star Grand Hotel Tremezzo that welcomes non residents to use the gorgeous glass fronted panoramic restaurant and piano bar.

Opposite you will find the ferry port for foot passengers and cars, Villa Carlotta with its world famous gardens and Tremezzo with its architecture, port and fabulous restaurants. From the nearby port or road you are just minutes from Menaggio, Tremezzo, Bellagio, Mezzegra and Lenno.

Cadenabbia and the surrounding area are perfect for walks along the lake or in the mountains. The position, views and surroundings are truly gorgeous.

Payment Terms

A deposit of 25% is payable once we have confirmed your booking. This can be paid by Visa, Mastercard or Bank transfer. The balance is then payable one month before arrival, by Visa, Mastercard or Bank transfer.

There will be a small surcharge of 5 euro per debit/credit card transaction. Bank transfers may incur charges by your own bank and occasionally by the receiving bank also so please check beforehand.

A modest charge is made by the owner for heating, it is metered and paid on departure. An average apartment will cost around 50 euro per week for heating. A deposit to cover breakages will be collected/returned by the owner on arrival/departure. The amount will be confirmed in your arrival pack.

The location and the view are fantastic
we enjoyed our stay at the villa - the Bella Como Team and Alessandra were very helpful.

Positives: The Villa Lodi is situated in a convenient location, within walking distance of Tremezzo and directly across the street from the ferry terminal that takes you to Bellagio. (but only to Bellagio - to go elsewhere you must first go to Bellagio, Tremezzo or Menaggio) The villa is spacious, with room for up to 12 if you used all the beds. It is a grand old place, which must have held many a party in its day. The Villa is full of wonderful art and antique furniture, and has a beautiful view. The kitchen is relatively modern and functional - we cooked several meals for eight. It has a fireplace we used on a few cold mornings. Alessandra was very helpful in getting us oriented and providing suggestions. There is a small market about 2 blocks away with plenty of staples, fresh bread, prosciutto, cheese and liquor. The restaurant next door is very good - family run with good food. There are extensive gardens up the hill in back of the villa, which are nice for a stroll.
Negatives: The villa, and indeed the whole village of Cadenabbia, is right on the lake road, so there is some road noise, which was not a big problem, but did detract a little. We had some trouble figuring out the washing machine, but eventually did some laundry, although there is no obvious place to hang it to dry. We were surprised that our rental only included one clean towel per person for the week, which was a little difficult. It would be nice to change them out mid-week. The bedrooms are only accessible by two gentle staircases.

All in all, we enjoyed our stay at the Villa Lodi - it provided a good home base for our group of 8, aged 9 to 84, to enjoy the beauty of Lake Como.

its the most amazing villa we have stayed in.Our daughter got married from Villa Lodi and our guest and family loved it .It was the perfect Villa for our Daughters wedding,situated overlooking the lake with beautiful gardens,and Ali the manager was very helpful and looked after all our needs

1. Attitude of villa Property Manager Alessandra was very bad. Not service orientated and we were ignored a lot of the time.
2. Utensils in Kitchen substandard. New Knives, cooking utensils, some pots should be thrown out. House for 10 people but a one person toaster. Oven door does not close properly.
3. Someone should look at liability of having rugs as many were very slippery on floor. Parts of woodern floor damaged.
4. Given this is a 5 star property the beds were sub-standard and felt like they were 100 years old. New mattresses would be a good idea.
5. After each cleaning occasion, cleaning implements were left lying around.
6. Washing machine initally was broken. Instead of just replacing or repairing we had to go through 2 days of convincing the villa manager that it as actually broken. We were made to feel like idiots as she still insisted that there was nothing wrong with it.
7. Lack of communication as we had noticed on at least one occasion that someone had been in the house without our knowledge. The tenant has right to occupancy without fear of others (even manager) gaining access without our knowledge. Guests have money and other valuables lying around.
8. No guest welcome pack. We arrived late in the day and had no food, milK, bread, NOTHING!!
8. A flat screen TV would be a good investment and if you are going to have Sat TV then how about some channels in English given that many guests will speak that language. No DVD player that would play guest DVDs correctly. Zone error.
9. Much of the snooker equipment needs to be repaired or serviced.
Overall Bella Como (particularly Dave) were great and provided fast and efficient service but they were let down by the property manager who is employed by the owner. If it were Bella Como running the property I'm sure the service would have been much better.

We had a wonderful time at Villa Lodi. After having Alessandra fix the hot water heater on a Sunday (problems with an electrical storm before we arrived), we only experienced a problem in 1 of the bathrooms we expected to use. In fact we all felt comfortable using 1 shower for all of us.

Alessandra was a perfect representative for Bella Como - attentive to all our needs/questions.

I would strongly recommend to future renters that you mention the excellence of the restaurant right next door, 'Restaurant & Bar Delle Isole'. The host, Paolo, was very helpful and the food was the best we had while at Lake Como. We dined there 3 times during our 6 day stay.

The website and David did not oversell the accomodation, it was what we were expecting - magnificent but in need of renovation. Everything worked mind you and when there was a slight problem it was sorted instantly. We were very impressed.

One thing I would say is that the unsecured rugs on polished floors at villa Lodi are a risk, we ended up rolling them up for the week.
