A stunning apartment in a 200 year old Villa with lake views, period features and large lake facing terrace with pool.

Villa Vecchia Poncetta, a classic Lake Como villa, built in the 17th century on the shores of Lake Como and having been previously owned by Countess Emilia Sommariva, the daughter of Villa Carlotta’s (the famous botanical gardens of Lake Como) owner.

The Sommariva Family hosted many famous people in Villa Vecchia Poncetta, including the Arch. Sanquirico Alessandro who spent many months there.

Originally the property included the twin villas and beautiful private park where the Grand Hotel Tremezzo stands today since its construction in 1910.

Today the villa is divided into just 4 separate character apartments that share the gardens and swimming pool with its stunning lake vistas. The interiors of the apartments were designed by the Arch. Alessandro Dubini and are a combination of both old and contemporary styles using sympathetic design and building techniques.

Many of the materials are reclaimed from the restoration including stunning stone staircases and iron work. Much of the original woodwork has been revealed to expose the hand painted reliefs and detail. Even the tiles in the bathroom are decorated with gold leaf.

Upon entering the Villa through its imposing and original wooden doors, the apartment is situated at the top of a short flight of stone steps. The apartment sits facing the lake with its own side terrace, and at the front overlooking the lake a small vantage point with table and chairs for two.

Through the main door you are immediately aware of the Villas history and heritage. The hallway mixes new and old. The gorgeous stone cotto floors and whitewashed walls set the tone for the interior of Villa Vecchia Ponchetta. A blend of modernity, character, and classic elegance.

From the hallway you can access the living space, bathroom and bedroom.

Through a frosted glass door you enter the bathroom which is full of character. The unconventional space has a free standing bath with overhead shower. There is a WC, Bidet, and sink. The mosaic tiles in the bathroom even contain gold leaf.

Again from the hallway towards the front of the villa, you enter the living space, which has two large lake facing windows with views across Lake Como and Bellagio. The living space has wooden floors, whitewashed walls and ceiling beams revealed in the restoration, complete with hand painted reliefs. There is seating for 4 people, a dining table, and a gorgeous white leather sofa that converts into a sofa bed that can sleep one adult or two children. There is a flat screen TV monitor for use with DVD player provided. Please be advised that the monitor does receive TV stations.

The day furniture compliments the room and gives it a classic, elegant feel. Also in the living space there is a kitchenette with a washing machine, small hob, microwave oven, and storage. Whilst the kitchenette is small it is a well designed facility that will be sufficient for preparing dinner on those nights in.

The bedroom is well proportioned, with an iron bed frame and classic furnishing. The large English wardrobe, and mirrored bedroom furniture work superbly with the Old Italian architecture.

From the external entrance to the apartment there is a stone staircase that leads to the rear gardens and swimming pool. The steps that wind there way up to the rear of the Villa may be considered steep so care must be taken. They are not suitable for guests with mobility problems. You children should be supervised.

Once at the top of the garden there is a large swimming pool with a wood decked terrace. From the pool and terrace there are stunning views across the lake, and to the mountains behind.

Today, the neighbouring Grand Hotel Tremezzo is one of Lake Comos finest hotels, and can be enjoyed by non residents in its bars, restaurants, and day Spa.

A wifi internet connection is available from a café approx 50 metres away. Parking is available in abundance along the lake shore, although in high season it can become scarce. You may have to find a parking place nearby rather than directly outside the Villa.

Out and about:

Being next door to one of the lakes best hotels, the grand hotel Tremezzo, you have an array of non resident facilities to choose from. Whether its fine dining in the glass fronted restaurant , cocktails in the elegant piano lounge, or the hotels gorgeous day spa, you will have opulence and grandeur just a few metres away!

Walking is both easy and enjoyable around this part of the lake. On your doorstep you be will rewarded with fresh bread and fresh groceries from the gorgeous store by the church in Tremezzo village. Just 20 metres across the road you are by the lake, and the local ferry port from which you can travel across the lake to Bellagio , Menaggio, or Varenna for example.


The piazzas and streets have wonderful family run cafés and restaurants that are open most days from dawn till late, locals meet on the way to work for a brioche and espresso, or after work for a relaxing glass of Prosecco. There is also a good selection of restaurants such as “Helvetia”, “red & White”, and “El Timon” which are just a short stroll away.

Tremezzo is in the centre of the recently opened “greenways”; these give you clear routes (denoted by beautiful green granite slabs and steel markers) for some of the best walks around the lake. You also within walking distance to Villa Balbianello (bond fame) and the stunning gardens of Villa Carlotta.

A deposit of 25% is payable once we have confirmed your booking. This can be paid by Visa, Mastercard or Bank transfer. The balance is then payable one month before arrival, by Visa, Mastercard or Bank transfer. A modest charge is made by the owner for heating, it is metered and paid on departure. An average apartment will cost around 45 euro per week for heating in winter. A cash deposit to cover breakages will be collected/returned by the owner on arrival/departure. The amount will be confirmed in your arrival pack.
