Villa Allegra - Lake front :: Argegno
Villa Allegra - On the lake
A romantics dream
A stunning neo classical apartment on the shores of the lake at the mouth Torrente Telo and marina, featuring original frescoed walls and ceilings, Murano chandeliers, antique furnishings and marble and stone floors.
All main rooms have ancient Grecian subjects painted onto the walls and ceilings in the neo classical Italian style of the lake. The subjects have been interpreted in a lake setting. They are original and unique.
The gorgeous, romantic, and truly unique Villa Allegra is just 200 metres from the centre of Argegno on the southern section of the left leg of the lake. Just 15 minutes from the cosmopolitan city of Como with easy access to Bellagio, Menaggio, Tremezzo and Varenna.
The apartment is on the ground floor of a pretty detached villa a few metres from the lake and marina constructed in a traditional Lake style, right next to ample parking but with the benefit of being just a short walk form the local bus routes and ferry so the apartment is a fantastic option if you really dont want to use a car.
On arriving by car, boat or bus, just make your way to the marina car park. Your breath will be taken away at the amazing position that you will enjoy for the duration of your stay as you are by the mouth of the river Telo that flows steeply from a series of waterfalls from the Cliffside, next to the lake and the pretty Marina.
Beside the car park is a row of well-trimmed bushes and at one end there is an imposing set of iron gates. You have arrived. Through the iron gates you enter a shared courtyard (the owner lives in the apartment upstairs with her little dog) the stone courtyard leads to a set of double doors with a large iron bolt. After sliding the bolt and entering through the glass doors you really will be stunned. Although you are in an apartment you will feel you have steeped back 200 years into time of grand Villas, Butlers and maids.
Into the private reception hallway you are greeted with marble floors, high ceilings and walls covered in hand painted frescos. In the centre a sculpture of two cherubs illuminated by a grand chandelier above.
From the hallway you enter the two grand bedrooms, the bathroom and the living/dining room.
To the left is a doorway that is always locked that leads to the owners residence above. It is not used and the owner has a separate entrance.
Turning right through the painted double doors guiding with gold, you enter the grand salon. A stunning room with a large Murano chandelier and wall lights, Large shuttered windows, a gorgeous dining table and chairs with room to entertain, sumptuous sofas and beautiful day furnishings. The room has scale and beauty, highlighted as light pours in. The room has a discreet TV too for those evening in.
Further on there are more hand painted doors. On the other side there is a breakfast room with antique furniture that leads to a small kitchen with dishwasher and everything you will need to entertain.
From the kitchen there is a door to a small terrace with a table and chairs. Whilst the outside space is limited you have endless possibilities for outside living, as you are so close to the marina, river mouth and lake.
Back to the hallway. Through more double doors you will enter the vast master bedroom with its stunning painted walls and ceilings. A large Oak king size a hand dramatically sets off bed made tapestry on the wall. There are also antique wardrobes, furniture and a large bureau. The room has French doors opening onto the kitchen courtyard.
Again from the hallway, and through another set of double doors there is a twin bedroom with heavy oak beds that can be separated for two singles or together as another double. Like the master bedroom it has stunning paintings and antique furniture. There is a large window with shutters.
Once again from the hallway, through a single door and down a few steps you are in the bathroom. In the art deco style you will find marble floors and art deco ceramics throughout. It has WC, Bidet, shower and vanity unit. There is also a washing machine tucked away for your use.
If this apartment were a hotel suite it would be the most expensive place to stay of lake Como. Its condition and interior is probably the finest original example on the lake and as such we do not recommend children between 1 and 8 years old.
Villa Allegra, sleeping upto 4 people. Living/dining room, kitchen/diner, 1 double bedroom, 1 twin bedroom, Bathroom with shower.
Out and about without a car.
Just across the way in front of the apartment there is a rocky river that delivers mountain fresh water into the lake. Across a small bridge you will find a beautiful lakeside lido with a beach, cafι , grassy bank, and pizzeria. The position is tranquil, pretty and just on your doorstep.
Being just a few hundred meters from the gorgeous cliff side town of argegno you have no need for a car. There is a marina to catch the ferry to anywhere on the lake and a bus stop too. Argegno has lovely bars, restaurants and shops where you sit by the lake and marina and soak up the ambience and sophistication of the Lake, or you can walk through the maze of quaint Old Italian streets that twist and turn. Close by is the Pigra funicular railway that in a few minutes can take you high above the lake for some breathtaking views.
By ferry you are about 20 minutes from Bellagio, Varenna, Tremezzo, Menaggio and of course Como, so you rest assured that you will be able to take in the sights without setting foot on four wheels if thats your choice.
